Guns N' Roses to play in South Africa in April - May 2007

    Diane Coetzer, Johannesburg

Guns N' Roses will play their first-ever African shows when they headline My Coke Fest 2007. The rock group tops a bill that so far includes Evanescence and Hoobastank at Johannesburg's New Market Racecourse on April 27 and Cape Town's Kenilworth Racecourse on May 1.

My Coke Fest 2007 follows on the heels of 2006's Coca-Cola Collab Massive Mix, which saw Metallica play in the country for the first time, along with Simple Plan, Collective Soul, Seether and others.

Seether's Sean Morgan has frequently visited the country with ex-girlfriend Amy Lee, but the Evanescence frontwoman will be performing with her band for the first time at the events.

As previously reported, Guns N' Roses' new album, "Chinese Democracy," is tentatively due March 6 via Interscope, but no news has been heard about the project since Axl Rose's lengthy Internet posting announcing the date in December.

Johannesburg - Coca-Cola and 5FM have just announced the coming of the My Coke Fest - 2007's biggest music festival.

This exciting music festival kicks off in Johannesburg on Friday 27 April at the New Market Racecourse, then moves to Kenilworth Racecourse in Cape Town on Tuesday 1 May.

It will boast the usual impressive mix of SA talent as well as international music heavyweights such as Guns N' Roses, Evanescence and Hoobastank.

    Guns N' Roses

Guns N' Roses has sold over 65 million albums worldwide, with their 1987 debut album, Appetite For Destruction was the highest selling debut of all-time, and sold over 20 million copies alone.

Use Your Illusion vol 1 & 2 entered the Billboard charts at the number one and two positions, with the hit single November Rain holding the distinction of being MTV's top music video of all-time.

Guns N' Roses are recognised as a band that changed rock and metal music in the late 80s by bringing it a more serious, emotional, and sometimes political edge.

    Evanescence

Having sold nearly 14 million records worldwide with their debut major-label album Fallen, Evanescence continues their meteoric rise with their latest offering, The Open Door.

The album from the two-time Grammy-winning band is defined by Amy Lee's beautiful melodies, compelling lyrics, poignant piano and stunning vocals, fused with the guitar sounds of Terry Balsamo and John LeCompt, and the powerful drumming of Rocky Gray.

    Hoobastank

Listeners tired of rock's same-sounding rap will rejoice upon hearing the melodic resonance of Hoobastank.

Hoobastank have delivered one of the true phenomenon's of rock's last two years with The Reason.

The title hit, The Reason, 2004's longest-running rock single inside the Hot 100, was nominated for Grammy awards as Song Of the Year and Best Pop Performance By a Duo or Group with Vocal, while The Reason was nominated as Best Rock Album.

Named Favourite International Rock Act at the MTV Asia Awards in 2005, and after logging more than a year on the Billboard 200 album chart, their long-awaited second album, Every Man For Himselfwas released last year.

Tickets cost R375 and R550 and are available from Computicket.
